Wow. That’s something I haven’t considered. Yes, a lot of the talk-rap that goes on in today’s country music is derived from hip-hop. I agree with you that people should focus on making good music, regardless of the genre. It also makes sense that those who largely listen to country music — White people — would want to only see their own showcased. It’s most likely a familiarity complex with racism sprinkled in. I’d like for Lil Nas X to do well, especially since his presence in country music is sort of like him reclaiming a genre of music that was largely dominated — some would say created — by Black people in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
