The latest scheme unfit for a Queen

All she wanted was “a little respect.” For the most part, she got it.

The American landscape was rocked by the passing of legendary singer Aretha Franklin on Thursday, August 16th, a little more than a week ago. Franklin, known to many as the “Queen of Soul,” is remembered for several incredible feats throughout her lifetime, such as being the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and recording her rendition of the ever-popular song “Respect,” originally performed by Otis Redding.

Since her departure, many fans and admirers of Franklin have paid tribute through kind messages via social media, performing new renditions of her music, and revisiting or discovering songs within the singer’s extensive catalogue. While numerous individuals succeeded in their attempts to honor her, others fell flat. An example of this can be seen with notable pop artist Madonna’s recent VMA tribute to Franklin, which received much backlash for being more about Madonna and her own musical journey as opposed to honoring the “Queen of Soul.”

However, there was one botched attempt at paying homage to Franklin that should be held under a microscope. This came from none other than Fox News, which The Hollywood Reporter describes as America’s “most successful cable news network.” On the day of…
