Is there a remedy for this identity?

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, June 24th, actress Jenny Slate announced she will no longer voice the part of Missy Foreman-Greenwald, a mixed-race — Black and White — girl, on the animated comedy Big Mouth. When explaining her reason for discontinuing this role, Slate, who is White, stated that “Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people.” Her decision was supported by Nick Kroll, co-creator, executive producer, and star of Big Mouth, who furthermore announced that the show will recast a new Black actor to voice Missy.

This recasting decision received mixed reviews, with support from some fans while others voiced their confusion or displeasure. Among those against the idea were comedians Aba Atlas and Erich Preach, who on their YouTube channel Aba & Preach greatly criticized Slate, in addition to White voice actors who share her sentiment. One complaint by Atlas centered on Missy’s mixed-race status. He asserted the following:
